Victoria Falls Hotel | Victoria Falls Hotels
For over 100 years, visiting members of Royal families, international and local statesmen, and celebrities worldwide, have preferred to stay at The Victoria Falls Hotel, where they are assured of privacy and care. An atmosphere steeped in history, combining the charm of the old with the comfort and convenience of today.
The historic Victoria Falls Hotel overlooks the Victoria Falls Bridge and the gorges below. Situated in acres of private garden, the charm and tranquil atmosphere of the hotel has earned international acclaim. The elegant decor and the old world charm of this gracious hotel is reflected in the wide colonial verandahs and the Livingstone room with its superb cuisine.
A walk along the hotel's private pathway will bring guests out atop the gorge and provides a magnificent view of the bridge crossing into Zambia. From here one can watch in awe as bungi jumpers fall 111 metres down the world's longest natural bungi jump, towards the mighty Zambezi below.
The hotel's 180 rooms are decorated in a manner that recaptures the comfortable charm of a bygone age, with colonial prints, four-poster and canopied beds, antique furniture and well-chosen artifacts. Modern facilities and amenities mingle well with the old-fashioned ambience, including such 21st century travellers' necessities as personal safes, minibars, bathrobes, digital satellite television and even umbrellas for the convenience of guests visiting the Rain Forest surrounding the Falls. Deluxe Rooms and Suites in the original section of the hotel offer breathtaking views across the deep Zambezi River gorge to the Victoria Falls Bridge and the spray of the Falls.
The main lounge with its old-fashioned traditional elegance and decor has a warm welcoming style, providing a perfect backdrop for relaxing with friends. The Bulawayo Room offers serenity and seclusion in surroundings of exceptional comfort and luxury, going back to the turn of the century. The hotel has two beautifully appointed curio shops, one specialising in colonial memorabilia.
The Livingstone Room
Elegant dinner and dancing with a classic á la carte menu. As a result of many requests from visitors, The Victoria Falls Hotel has decided to relax aspects of the long-standing dress code in force in its premier dining venue, The Livingstone Room. This is in recognition of the fact that many travellers do not bring with them the more formal clothes that have until now been mandatory in this restaurant. Smart casual wear is now acceptable in The Livingstone Room at dinner each evening. The fine silver-service dining experience that visitors have come to expect will continue to be the order of the day, however.
Stanley's Terrace
A la Carte lunch, afternoon tea, sundowners, light dinner and á la carte menu. Traditional high tea is served every afternoon on the Terrace, with spectacular views of the Victoria Falls bridge down the Batoka Gorge with the spray rising from The Falls. Later, enjoy one of the hotel's famous Livingstone cocktails or a gin and tonic whilst listening to the mighty roar of the Falls.
The Jungle Junction
During the late 1940's, the Solent Flying Boat service, offered by Imperial Airways, became one of the more interesting ways to travel to Africa. This service flew from Southampton, England to Johannesburg, South Africa. The Solents landed and were serviced on a reach of the Zambezi above the Victoria Falls. This stopover became known as the "Jungle Junction" and was soon the favourite stop on the route, as all passengers disembarked and stayed at The Victoria Falls Hotel.
